  • ​Lumbar puncture
  • Shunt
​Collection Procedure
  • ​Refer to CSF Collection Guidelines for order of draw instructions
  • Tubes provided in the CSF Collection Kit are pre-numbered (1 to 4) indicating the order sample tubes are drawn during collection. IF alternate collection container is used, tubes MUST be numbered with the order sample tubes are drawn.
​Required Volume
  • Optimal Volume: 3 mL
  • Minimum Volume: 1 mL
    (Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection. If less than the minimum volume is submitted, TB/AFB culture may be prioritized in consultation with the Microbiologist-on-call at 306-655-1000.)

  • Hand deliver to laboratory promptly
  • Stable at room temperature if sample cannot be immediately transported
