​Ordering Recommendation

  • Can be ordered singly as prothrombin (PR202) or is included in group code THROM (thrombophilia investigation). One tube will suffice for both molecular tests (PR202 and F5L)
  • Repeat testing is not performed, since this is a genomic DNA test

  • ​Whole blood
​Collection Procedure
  • ​Specimens sent for prothrombin shall be drawn by venipuncture
  • No special instructions for patient before collection
  • Specimens should be transported to Royal University Hospital, Human Molecular Genetics without unnecessary delay
​Required Volume
  • ​Optimal Volume: 4 ml
  • Minimum Volume: 1 ml
  • ​Ship specimens at ambient temperature
  • Specimens may be stored at 2 - 8°C

  • ​Routine batch testing performed Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Not a STAT test

  • ​Allele specific nested PCR detection
​Clinical Interpretation
  • ​Will detect if the sample is positive (heterozygous or homozygous for this specific mutation) or negative (homozygous wild-type)
​Specimen Retention
  • ​Peripheral blood retained for 14 days
  • Extracted DNA stored for 2 years
