Specimen Requirements
Type	Serum
Container	Preferred Collection Container: Red Alternative Collection Container: Tiger (gel)
Required Volume	Whole Blood Optimal Volume: 4.0 mL Minimum Volume: 2.0 mL (Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection) Pediatric Volume: 3.0 mL Serum (For Laboratory Use Only) Minimum Volume: 0.5 mL
Stability/Storage	Serum must be removed from cells or gel within 4 hours of collection Stable up to 7 days at 2°C to 8°C
Grounds for Rejection	Samples with repeated freeze/thaw cycle Samples held at ambient temperature for greater than 24 hours Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Acceptance and Rejection Criteria
