PageTopContent Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Test Catalogue FloatingContent2Body FloatingContent1 PageMiddleContent ​Von Willebrand Ristocetin Cofactor Activity Hematology - Special Coagulation ​Ordering Recommendation ​​Patient should not be on any anticoagulant therapy If unable to discontinue anticoagulant therapy, suggest consultation with hematopathologist prior to ordering Part of Von Willebrand Factor Panel (VWF), includes Factor 8, Von Willebrand Antigen and Ristocetin Co-Factor activity  Specimen Requirements​ ​ Type​ ​Whole blood ​Container ​Preferred Collection Container: Blue plastic (3.2% Buffered Na citrate) ​Collection Procedure ​Collection tube must be filled until the vacuum on the tube is completely exhausted to maintain an anticoagulant : blood ratio of 1:10 Specimens shall be drawn by venipuncture In the event that this is not possible, the specimen shall only be tested after being approved and reviewed by the Hematopathologist on call  See Collecting and Shipping Specimens for Coagulation from Laboratories outside Saskatoon ​Required Volume ​Please see VWF Panel when ordering in conjunction with other VWF testing Optimal Volume:  Two 2.7ml 3.2% Buffered Na Citrate OR  Three 1.8 mL 3.2% Buffered Na Citrate (Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection.) ​Stability/Storage ​Whole blood specimen shall be received at RUH Coagulation Laboratory within 2 hours of collection Specimen is discarded after reporting If an extra specimen is collected it is retained for 3 months Grounds for Rejection​ ​Line draws Hemolysis Clotted Inappropriately filled tubes Patient on anticoagulant therapy testing must be approved by the Hematopathologist on service Frozen aliquot specimen shipped without dry ice Plasma specimen that has thawed and been refrozen Plasma specimen that has thawed for more than 2 hours Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Acceptance and Rejection Criteria    Testing Information​ ​ Availability​ ​Monday to Friday 07:30 – 16:00 excluding statutory holidays unless approved by the hematopathologist on call Testing Site​ ​RUH Special Coagulation Laboratory Results Reporting​ ​Specimens are batched and performed once per week Alternate Test Names​ ​Hemophilia testing Von Willebrand Factor panel VWF SHR LIS Test Code​ VWF (For Laboratory Use Only)   PageBottomContent ​If you choose to print this information, it is valid only on date of print.
