First Step Program

​Partnership program with the City of Saskatoon

Who it is for:

Individuals with diabetes, pre-diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, abnormal cholesterol, increased body weight and arthritis.


To provide a high quality prevention/rehabilitation program for individuals who want to take control of their health and future well-being.


  • Offers both education and exercise.  Trained instructors will assess needs and help develop healthy lifestyle habits during each session. 

  • Education topics may include: Goal Setting, Action Planning, Basic Anatomy and Strength, Intro to Risk Factors, Exercise Prescription, High Blood Pressure, Arthritis , Nutrition, Physical Inactivity, Diabetes, Body Weight and Composition, Stress Management, High Cholesterol, and Foot Care.

  • Offered education classes seasonally through the year.

  • Walking is the key activity for exercise, although the program may also include stationary biking, rowing, upper body exercises, resistance and stretching exercises.

How to Register:

Physician referral or self referral.


The cost includes 3 months of exercise (3 times/week) plus the education cycle that runs seasonally.
