Wadena Hospital is an integrated facility that supports acute, respite and long term care. Wadena Hospital was built in 1967, with a long-term care facility addition opening in 1989. The hospital has 18 beds. The integrated facility has 52 beds and a staff of 107 people. There is a clinic with two physicians on the hospital grounds.
Admitting
To be admitted to hospital, patients must report to the Front Office located inside the East side entrance. After 4:00 p.m. patients must report to the nurses’ station.
Television Service/Telephones/Radios
Televisions are located in the patient lounges at the end of each wing. A portable television and VCR is also available. Please ask your nurse if you would like to borrow it.
A pay telephone is located by the front office in the waiting room for patients’ use.
The nurses carry portable phones, which may be used if necessary.
Patients may bring their own radio, however it must be a transistor radio equipped with earphones.
Newspapers/Reading Materials
The Wadena News donates weekly issues to the hospital. They are located at the nursing desk for patients to borrow. Also, the Saskatoon Star Phoenix, donated by the Wadena Health Auxiliary, is delivered daily. Magazines are available in the patient lounges.
Quiet Room/Clergy
A quiet room is available for privacy and confidentiality for families, for counseling and discussions with doctors and nursing staff.
A Palliative room is also available. This is a private patient room attached to a room which may be used by family members. The room has kitchen and sleeping accommodations and a telephone. Long distance calls must be made by calling card only.
Clergy will make weekly visits to patients. To request a visit, please talk to your nurse.
Patient Meals
Patient meals are delivered at the following times:
- Breakfast – 7:30 a.m.
- Lunch – 12:00 noon
- Dinner – 5:00 p.m.
The hospital kitchen is also open to visitors, however visitors must pay for their meals.
A soda machine is located in the waiting room by the front office.
Telephoning a Patient
A telephone for out-going local calls is located in the acute ward hallway for ambulatory patients.
Nurses also carry portable phones, which may be used by patients in special circumstances. To contact a patient please call the hospital at 306-338-2515.
