Saskatoon and area residents wanting to receive their influenza immunizations are encouraged to attend the mass influenza immunization clinic which opens today at Prairieland Park and runs through this weekend. The annual influenza immunization is free and can be given to anyone over 6 months of age.

This year’s mass clinic site has been designed with families in mind with private areas set up to provide a more calming environment for children as they receive their flu shots. The site is also designed to support adults and children with low mobility. Children under the age of 9 years need to receive influenza immunization at mass clinics operated by Public Health or through their physician offices.

The clinic at Prairieland Park runs today (Friday, October 27) from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m, Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. To help keep the lines moving, please arrive with your screening form already filled out and bring your Health Card.

With a potentially difficult influenza season ahead and influenza already appearing in the community, officials are encouraging everyone, but particularly high-risk individuals to get immunized. This includes pregnant women, adults and children with chronic health conditions such as cardiac or pulmonary disorders and diabetes, adults 65 years of age and older; and all children ages 6 to 59 months of age.

Children over 9 years of age and adults can also receive their flu shots at the close to 100 pharmacies offering influenza immunizations this year.
