| Saskatoon - The Saskatchewan Health Authority Public Health Office in Saskatoon is advising people of a small risk of hepatitis A exposure from a restaurant food handler who worked while infectious. Officials have confirmed a travel-related case of Hepatitis A in a person employed at the Apple Crate Café, located in the Glen at Crossmount just outside of Saskatoon.
Any patron who visited this facility and
ate food on December 28, 29, 30, 2017, or January 13, 2018 may have been exposed to the hepatitis A virus. The Saskatchewan Health Authority is asking people who consumed food at the Apple Crate Café on any of the identified dates and who have not already been contacted through the public health investigation to call the Public Health Disease Control office in Saskatoon at 306-655-4612 for more information. Hepatitis A can be a serious liver disease that is caused by the hepatitis A virus. The virus is transmitted through contaminated food and water. It can be passed by someone infected with the virus who doesn't wash his/her hands and then touches something you eat. Symptoms of hepatitis A include loss of appetite, mild 'flu-like' illness, severe abdominal pain and diarrhea, nausea, tiredness, fever and jaundice. -- 30 -- Related Information |
