Today Jim Rhode announced he will be stepping down as Chair of the Saskatoon Regional Health Authority effective January 10, 2015. With his departure from the health authority, he is also resigning his positions as Chair of 3sHealth and as a member of the board for eHealth Saskatchewan.
Mr. Rhode has served as Chair of the Saskatoon Regional Health Authority since 2009, Chair of 3sHealth since 2012 and has been on the board of eHealth Saskatchewan since 2011.
“It has been a privilege to serve Saskatchewan residents in this capacity, helping to ensure our health care organizations focus on putting the needs of patients first,” Mr. Rhode said. “Over the past six years my primary focus has been on my governance role in the health system. For some time I have been thinking about stepping down in order to dedicate more time to my business, although I first wanted to ensure strong leadership continuity within the Saskatoon Health Region before resigning. I am grateful to have been a recipient of life-saving treatments from our healthcare providers and to have been involved in the governance of a system that touches the lives of so many people.”
“I appreciate the contributions Mr. Rhode has made to health care for the benefit of Saskatchewan residents,” Health Minister Dustin Duncan said. “His passion for quality, efficiency and putting the patient first has helped to create a culture of compassion and accountability in our health system.”
During his time with the Saskatoon Regional Health Authority, Mr. Rhode and his fellow board members oversaw the implementation of the new Lean-based Saskatchewan Health Care Management system, improvements in the quality of health care, and improving the patient experience and was involved in the Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan project from chairing the site validation through to the start of construction.
Mr. Rhode was also the inaugural chair of the 3sHealth board as the organization was created and played a key leadership role in guiding the vision for 3sHealth for improving quality, safety and achieving savings across the health system.
As a board member for eHealth Saskatchewan, Mr. Rhode brought a valued perspective to electronic health information ensuring timely access to important information to improve care.
The Saskatoon Regional Health Authority board of directors, whose members are appointed by the province, governs operations of the Saskatoon Health Region. The board members of Regional Health Authorities in Saskatchewan are appointed by the Minister of Health.
Jim Rhode is currently President of Davis Machine Company in Saskatoon.
Acting Board Chairs will be identified for the Saskatoon Regional Health Authority and 3sHealth before Mr. Rhode departs.
