Public Service Announcement: #GETLOUD in support of Mental Health

How do you feel: fine or phine? Phine by definition is saying you’re fine when you are not. This is the focus of the 64th national Mental Health Week. Mental health is more than the absence of mental illness. It’s a state of well-being. To help Saskatoon #getloud for mental health, Saskatoon Health Region’s Mental Health and Addiction Services invites you to a number of events.

  • Sunday, May 3 – Kick-Off Event - Mental Health Fun Run - Team (Relay) & 16km start at 9am; remaining distances start at 9:30am. Location: Diefenbaker Park www.mhasfunrun.ca
  • Monday, May 4 - Join us for a day of fun, food and fellowship, as we celebrate Mental Health week with a BBQ and festivities. 9:30 am - 1:00 pm Vimy Memorial Bandshell, Kiwanis Park (by the Bessborough).  This will include a variety of games and activities, featuring an interactive hula hoop demo and lesson and performance by Joy of Jammin’.
  • Tuesday, May 5 – Celebrating 32 Years of Caring, Respect, Opportunities, Challenges, Understanding, Support – Free Pancake Breakfast - 7:30 am to 10:30 am, Crocus Co-op, 135 Avenue B South
  • Wednesday, May 6 – BBQ Sponsored by Saskatoon Housing Coalition & Saskatoon Crisis Intervention Service, 12:00 pm at Crocus Co-Op, 135 Avenue B South
  • Thursday, May 7 - Academic Workshop Presented by Dr. Peter Butt “Concurrent Care Through an Addiction Lens” 1:30pm to 3:30pm at 314 Duchess Street at Community Adult Recovery Services
  • Friday, May 8 - Living on the Outside - Experiences of Mental Illness and Post-Incarceration, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Neatby Timlin Theatre at University of Saskatchewan. This fireside chat and panel will examine the lived experience of mental illness post-long term incarceration. Register in Advance, call 306-655-0472. Guest Speaker is Victoria Maxwell, “Crazy for Life”
  • Friday, May 8 - Mental Health Awareness Week Windup Dance - 7:00 p.m. at the Kinsmen Hall/Cosmo Seniors Centre – 614 11th Street East. Live Music by The 3 Canadians, Pizza and pop served. Thanks to the generosity of the Saskatoon Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon, transportation to and from the dance will be provided.
  • Saturday, May 9 - Schizophrenia Society Saskatoon Chapter Gala – 6:00 pm with cocktails at 6:30pm and dinner at 7pm. Presentations follow. Tickets can be purchased at www.schizophrenia-saskatoon.com
