Day surgery patients at Royal University Hospital (RUH) are now being prepared for and recovering from their procedure in a shared space on the main floor. The renovated space, which opened on March 20, has nine beds for day surgery patients.

"This space is so much better," says Deb Leek, Manager of Peri-Anesthesia Services, which includes day surgery. "Day surgery is a busy place, with up to 20 patients a day, so this dedicated space now means the nurses are better able to manage patient flow while delivering safe quality patient care. Patients have a much quieter space where they can recover from their surgery."

The old day surgery space on third floor was converted to a permanent inpatient flex unit at the same time as the day surgery move. The Flex 3000 unit adds an additional twelve regularly available inpatient beds to RUH capacity.

The day surgery space offers patients a quieter and more relaxed space.
