We all know a great nurse, or someone who received quality care from a great nurse. Nursing is a demanding profession, so ave you ever wondered why they do what they do? We asked some nurses this question and here is what we heard:

“Nursing is an exciting and diverse field! You can do so many different things! I love my job because I can make a difference.” ~ Jan Berger

“I love my job because it's challenging, rewarding, ever-changing and I get to work with great people!! I love to see how my work makes a difference in people’s lives. The best advice I ever received from another nurse was, it’s more about the people than the work we do.” ~ Nada Melendez-Duke

“I love my job because every day is different, and I make a difference because I care about people. The best advice I ever received from another nurse was the reminder that there is always something to learn from every person you encounter.” ~ Lana Prystai

“I make a difference because I can provide compassionate care to individuals. And the best advice I could give to a new nurse is always listen to your patient or resident.” ~ Cindy Rorquist

“I love my job because it is constantly changing, and I am constantly learning. The best advice I ever received from another nurse was ‘You may need to breathe through your mouth’.” ~ Raeleen Hulan

“I love my job because I find it stimulating and rewarding. I make a difference because I make an impact on the health of patients and their families. The best advice I could give a new nurse is the more questions you ask, the better.”~ Julie Peterson

“I became a nurse because I love a challenge. Nursing is my passion. And I make a difference because I get to interact with many people every day.” ~ Christine Simle

“Nursing is caring for the person as a whole, and listening with all your senses.” ~ Celeste Hrapchak

“I love my job because I love helping others who can’t help themselves. The best advice I ever received from another nurse was to treat your patients or residents like your loved one – your mom, Grandma, son or daughter.” ~ Cora Vielhauer

Please take the extra time to thank a nurse for what they do during National Nursing Week, May 8-13 in Canada.
